Great post. I've mostly just been keeping myself informed. I thought about emailing some gov people but I'm not sure what I'd say. More to the point, I'm profoundly wary of the U.S. getting involved with this in any official way more than Obama already has.

US involvement in this is tricky -- I think what people are doing now is good: getting the word out about what's going on, seeding videos and retreating, letting the voices of the Iranian people be heard. They can tell their story much better than we can.

(This is a repost from one_hoopy_frood, so thank her and not me.)

Yeah. It's heartbreaking, but the fact that so many people do care and are doing something -- well, that renews my faith in humanity just a little.

Yeah. It's so frustrating, because you feel so helpless. I want to be there protesting with them, which I know is a horribly privileged thing to say, because I'm safe here without a government that's willing to shoot me if I disagree. But still, I just feel useless when watching the Twitter updates.

*nodnod* So do I -- I mean, I can tweet and retweet like crazy, but dangit, I wish there was something else. But then you get into the question of Western involvement in all this, and for the life of me, I don't know what the correct answer is about that issue.

*hugs right back*

I got a Twitter account just to track this, seriously.

I've been thinking of doing the same. I probably should. I've been watching aggregate sites instead, so far.

1/ this is a great post, and thanks for linking to ressources I wasn't aware of yet. (and btw I HATE when people say 'if it bothers you so much, just look away'! if something bothers me to that extent, it's usually because i have a good reason to care about it, and not looking at it won't make it cease to exist for fuck's sake).

2/ it's still a very long post with several pictures, could you use a lj cut, please?

a) Don't thank me, thank one_hoopy_frood for writing it up in the first place and allowing it to be reposted; she has the code for it up at her journal, I believe.

b) ...I know why using an LJ-cut is polite in this scenario, but I'm not going to -- this is something everyone should see.

will do.

People who break off netiquette and send chain letters also believe that it is something everyone should see. I agree this is a matter of importance and worth talking about, but I doubt you'll win over anyone more than would have clicked on a lj-cut by being intentionally rude.

I'm not intending to be rude, but I think this is a matter of greater importance than a chain letter, and I'm kind of insulted by the comparison.

I will consider cutting some of this, but not all of it.

Ick, typos. I've been stalking the various feeds (and ontd_political) for about a day now, and oh god, the picture emerging from that country. I just wish I could do more than tweet and blog, you know?
