Game of Thrones livebloggish thing

So I am back in Baltimore for a few days, and was despairing because my parents don't have HBO, which cockblocks me from getting my hands on the first episode of Game of Thrones. But as luck would have it, HBO is free this weekend, so I got to watch the premiere after all! And I have Thoughts on it, as you do.

Have my real-time reactions to the episode! Spoilers for the episode, obviously. )

fandom: game of thrones/asoiaf, and there was much rejoicing, reaction shot

I thought this first episode delivered, everything was pretty much up to expectation and more, with only a few minor quibbles that I don't think could have been helped much.

Man, I hate what will happen to Ned, but I love this Jaime and Tyrion so much. And Arya is amazing, she totally steals every scene. In direct contrast to Dany and her majorly uncomfortable scenes. (But I feel the entire series will be hard to watch, knowing what will happen to about half the cast.)

My one complaint was that Khal Drogo was less ...cuddly in private in the series compared to the book. Like he outright rapes her here while in the book Dany pretty much consents to it. I liked in the book that Khal Drogo was a barbarian warlord, but a giant softie towards his queen. Instead he's just a barbarian warlord. Hopefully they soften his character a bit. Dany and Drogo was one of those really bizarre pairings that somehow worked and I hope the series doesn't ruin it.

Otherwise it was fantastic.

I think Theon's the smirking fellow we keep seeing around Robb, the one who pulls his dagger to shank the puppy, and who later's cheerfully talking about Joffrey's opportunities for sex in King's Landing during the haircut scene.
