Ah I would attempt if only for just the pure awesome of it all, but oh, I can't even begin to think of just how many different actions could take place, who would meet with who a horrible part of me wants the Italies to forgo meeting Firo and the Mob and just hang with Issac and Miria...

I HOPE SOMEONE ELSE TRIES THEIR HAND AT THIS THOUGH.

A whole Hetalia-Baccano crossover is just needed like now.

Quick note about fic archival - the way I see it, there will never be anime/manga fandom at AO3 if people who write it don't archive there. And the interface is so much better and there's the allowing of porn and coauthors and tagging...

I'd say archive there, foster the fandom there, but perhaps also archive the stuff that can logically be archived at ff.net. It sucks, but at least it'll get you a million reviews. ;)

Point, and I guess someone always has to start the flood -- it's not that the atmosphere is hostile towards Eastern fandoms there or anything, it's just a little less welcoming? A big part of why I'm in fandom is the community, and I'm always a little reluctant to fannishly venture into places where there isn't one.

But I also like community-building when I get a chance to do it, so.

(Ha, I don't know about that, I think most of the big review-getters over there are chaptered, and I'm mostly a oneshot kinda girl, but there's definitely a community there. And I think you can even reply to reviews now, which is cool. I like replying to reviews.)

I would say you would be better off posting to AO3. It seems like a really well thought out archive maintained by people who actually care about fandom. And yeah, it has the co-author feature, and you can make groupings for fic challenges and stuff which would be great if people wanted another archive for like, Hetalia Sunshine or other challenges.

I know it doesn't have much of an anime/manga fanbase at the moment, but it isn't going to get one unless people post their fanworks there and encourage people to check it out.

Also, god damn it Funi! Damn region locked clips.

Oh, the people are definitely great! I tag-wrangled for a bit, and they were all lovely and fun. Even if we didn't share a lot of fandoms in common, we all had a fannish sort of mindset, and I know the archive maintainers are interested in reaching out to anime/manga and videogame fandoms but aren't quite sure how to do it.

(The challenge infrastructure is awesome, I have heard. Possibly something to think of the next time I run an exchange...)

Ah, sorry about that. I'll see if anyone else uploads it!

Haha, no worries. I think the last clip was uploaded soon enough so I'll just wait a few hours ^^ I'm used to it by now. The UK gets things a lot later and usually more expensive when it comes to anime.

I've really enjoyed using AO2 so far, even if I am woefully behind on posting my fics there. And hmm, I think a lot of reaching out to anime/manga fandoms might have to come from the fans themselves, word of mouth and the like. Especially since I think those fandoms seem to have become so much more focused and concentrated on livejournal instead of independent websites.

I like what I have seen of the challenge infrastructure personally! Very easy to use and just... convenient. Sometimes you really want people to know that you wrote something for a challenge without having to write author's notes about it. And it helps if you're looking for that elusive fic you once saw in a challenge but can't remember the title.

Yeah, I've heard. But the hetalia community's usually pretty good about getting region-free rips up, at least.

Livejournal and messageboards/imageboards, it seems -- but even the LJ anime/manga community doesn't interact with the LJ Western-fandom community all that often, or only in certain areas. Mostly I think fandom just tends to fragment, and getting together a big centralized archive for fans of ALL stripes to use is damned hard.

And don't they let you use the Yuletide sorting algorithm, too? That would make life about a gazillionty times easier. I like the option of uploading works early but hiding them until The Reveal, too.

You CAN post smut in FF.net. It just has to have a mature tag. It's not visible immediately until you do select from a drop down menu to see it.

FF.net is an ABSOLUTE BITCH at formatting at times. And I've had problems where my smart quotes disappear. You can interact with the people there, though, by making use of the forums and by replying back to their reviews (you can only reply to signed reviews, and your replies aren't visible to the readers).

ALSO:

SENOR RODRIGO AND THE FIGHTING ALPACAS.

God I'd love to make fanart of the team in their uniforms and the alpaca and Austria just looking just VERY PISSED while Prussia laughs his head off.

So M is both R and NC-17? I know NC-17 fic/"explicit content"/whatever is technically banned from the site, but I guess there's no way to know whether something is M or NC-17 unless it gets reported. (I am still a little :/ about the NC-17 ban, considering, but I have been for years at this point.)

-- oh shit, it strips away smart quotes? Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat's going to be a bitch to correct, since Word pretty much auto-smartquotes everything I write in it. Nice to know they're actually letting you reply to people now, though!

RODERICH HATES THAT ALPACA SO MUCH, it's amazing. ♥ Gil has locked the alpaca in his office more than once. (Once he did this when Roderich moved his office to the fourth floor.)

That's how the fans/writers made it, yeah. I posted explicit content there myself, and many authors I know post what we deem the NC-17 and R stuff under it.

Sometimes it does. The FF.net uploading tool does inexplicable things every now and then, but so far it hasn't done that to me anymore.

GIL IS AWESOME. POOR RODERICH, THOUGH. And Antonio is blissfully oblivious of Roderich's hate, I bet.

I figured as much; they were doing as much back in 2003, and I can't imagine ff.net's denizens are any more compliant with that rule now than they were then.

I might toy with it a bit before I actually upload anything, just to see what I can get away with. We'll see.

He acts like he is, whether he is or not, but Antonio acts blissfully ignorant of a whole lot of things.

OMG YOU BETA'D THAT FIC???

you are one of the people responsible for my conversion to austria/hungary. my love for the pairing was previously not there. now it is.

i would say post the stuff that you can to ff.net... i don't know like...... anything... about AO3, but ff.net is the place i first started with fanfiction, and it would reach a lot of people who desperately need well-written hetalia stuff. (have you seen some of the stuff on that site? it sucks... not that i'm one of those people.... not at all...) but i think that for people who are just starting out with hetalia or with fanfiction in general, you would be a great help. i know if i had started with hetalia instead of naruto, and i had read your stuff instead of some of the crap i did end up reading, i would be a better writer right now :D

Not just me, but I helped! But yeah, they did justice to Austria/Hungary, and I've been waiting for someone to do that for a while. So it's nice to read!

*blush* Ha, I didn't even think of it like that, but thank you! (I haven't really been on ff.net in years, but I remember what it was like back when I was a teenager and writing for Harry Potter. Sturgeon's Law is in effect.) I suppose I could always link to the porn in my profile, or disguise it -- the coauthoring thing is harder, I'd have to ask Mith, but it's not like I'd be moving ALL MY FIC OVERNIGHT, anyway.

...god I hope it doesn't kill my formatting.

(Yeah, me and Rachel sorta know her through the anon meme's grand Twittersphere, so I manned up and asked her! And she was really helpful. You see Gregor? He wouldn't have been how he was if she hadn't pointed out the gaping flaws in his inital characterziation ♥)
