“They say,” England remarks as his Queen removes the lacquered phallus from its compartment and starts to slick it, “you are wed to your country.” He watches her hands; they are not so white as the rest of her, but they hold a beauty of their own, and imagining them wrapped around a sword or sceptre-or his prick-makes him stiffen.

She favours him with a smile, less regal than the trace of one she oft wears. “These are not customary nuptials.”
