Incredibly lucky! I've caught glimpses of Grass Snakes swimming in heath pools before, but I've never been quick enough to grab a picture...
You will not be surprised to learn that nothing at all has changed at the Blue Pool. Miss B. is still in the kitchen, and the scones are still tiny (but very nice).
Yes, same here. I often come across adders on the heath, but grass snakes hardly ever - just very occasionally the glimpse of a tail disappearing into the murk of one of the pools on the heath. They are so incredibly at home in the water.
It must be a good year for grass snakes, I saw one doing exactly that in the lake at Cambridge Botanic. Too fast for me to catch him (and it was rather hot and I was dozing by the water!).
I was incredibly lucky - this one swam in to the shore and I was able to creep up and get a good look... I haven't had such a close encounter with a grass snake in years and years.
Parts of the local heath are managed for reptile conservation, so I do see slow worms and adders fairly regularly on my walks... But I hadn't seen a grass snake in years. I had forgotten how big they can get!

Wow. How lucky to see the grass snake swimming!
It's almost a full year since I was last at the Blue Pool.

I can't remember last time I saw a grass snake. Adders, yes, semi-regularly, but a grass snake is a lovely thing and they swim so beautifully too.
