5am. Met two foxes at the edge of the village. Not this year's cubs, none of which survived the main road, but maybe last year's, returning to the woods after paying a visit to the garden of the Person who Feeds Foxes ( Read more... )

It's a wonder there is any wildlife left when so much gets killed on the roads.

Yes, it's particularly sad when you see the tiny fox cubs and badger cubs lying at the side of the road...

But two of last year's fox cubs survived and have presumably learnt to be wary of traffic, so some of them do make it.

I saw Jupiter and Sirius at 6 this morning, too. Orion was closing in on the western horizon, but I could make out Betelgeuse and Orion's belt through the empty branches of our front yard silver maple.

I love these crisp early fall mornings. If only they didn't give way to frigid winter mornings!

Yes, I don't think I'd be quite so keen on the morning star-gazing if the temperatures here were as extreme as yours!

Though the weather here has gone mild and wet again, so I probably won't get to see much of the full moon or the Leonids next week.
