'Intense' is the perfect word to describe the window, and possibly the man...

In an article on Pugin in the Guardian recently, it said he had a major breakdown in 1851, just four years after the date of this window, & was committed to an asylum, dying in 1852 at the age of 40.

I think I'll have to see if the library has a copy of the Rosemary Hill... I wonder how/whether those medical conditions might have affected his work.
