Journey to the East

I have been away in foreign parts, visiting the wild folk of the Fens (otherwise known as my brother and sister-in-law who live in Cambridgeshire).

I will drive 100 miles out of my way if I can just keep to backcountry roads and avoid all major thoroughfares. And with the sun bearing down and blinding you! AIUTO!!!!!!

Starbucks sucks.

Yes. Usually I'm right with you on avoiding three- and four-lane highways... But the journey time to Cambridgeshire would have been too much for me if I didn't take the motorway route.

Starbucks was surprisingly awful. 😊

I do exactly the same as you re memorising road numbers and then heading in the wrong direction, and I have many many miles under my belt!

I had a long trip on Sunday with several unwelcome breaks at crowded services, but I did get to take a photo of the iconic 1960s tower thing at Lancaster.

I'm so glad it's not just me!

And now I've just had to search for "iconic 1960s tower thing at Lancaster"... Oh, my word. The Pennine Tower! What a classic piece of 1960s motorway architecture.
