Early morning, late August

Aug 26, 2023 09:21

Morning walks through the forest are autumnal. The heather and dwarf gorse still in flower, but there's a chill in the air, a thin layer of mist hanging over the marshes. And a silence. The birds have raised their broods and are no longer singing.

The sun rises and the spiderwebs catch the light.

Now you mention it, the birds are quiet now in the morning. There's still twittering through the day, but the actual singing had gone -- and I never noticed.

It has been really noticeable on my morning walks this past week, the silence. But I expect the robins will start singing again soon, when they've finished their moult.

Very peaceful. Apart from where the occasional really ambitious spider has strung a web across the path at head height - then there might be startled human noises.

and I notice that the birds (I don’t have time to understand which ones) are circling in flocks at high speed, it would seem pointlessly - why? as if they are arranging maneuvers to fly far away

the sun went down to the horizon, its warmth became slightly cool and sad

I have not seen the swallows gathering here yet, so perhaps summer is not quite over.

But there is autumnal feel to the landscape - ripe blackberries in the hedges, and people setting out boxes of free windfall apples by the road.

The blackberries in my garden are beginning to ripen. This is the second summer she has grown with me. The "harvest" is still very small. I ate some berries last summer. Maybe (I hope) this summer I will collect a glass...))

Maybe there will be a blackberry and apple (mostly apple) pie?

It suddenly went all warm again this morning, after a week of it being really really chilly on my morning walks through the forest. I suppose summer is coming back now the kids are back at school.
