My husband went to explore a new route through a wood yesterday. He said I would have hated it because it involved fighting foliage and floundering through undergrowth.
But how frustrating to meet mud when the temperatures are in the high 20s.
Re the tree, will someone come and cut a way through?
Yes, I was expecting to have to battle my way through a few nettles, but not to be dealing with fallen trees and a morass - not in high summer! We had so much rain last week, I suppose it must still be seeping out of springs in the hillside.
I'll go on the council website later and report the blocked right of way. Hopefully the council still has a rights of way officer in these days of cuts.
More foolish than intrepid, I think... A sensible person would have turned back at the nettles! And I'm never doing that scramble up the hillside again.
to have such close contact with nature! physical contact, I mean-aren't you afraid of ticks? I have friends who have had sad consequences from them, and I bought an aerosol to scare them away. I'm going to use it to spray my jeans during walks.
I love walking through that green tunnel of shade at the foot of the hill... But I probably won't be attempting that particular path again in high summer after heavy rainfall. I came back bramble-scratched and coated in mud.

Both the snails and the orchids seem to be enjoying this wet summer of ours!

The ticks are normally not too bad here, except in bracken. But I always wear long trousers and long sleeves on my walks, just in case.
