The subtext I like to read into the distance (depending on your head-canon) is that either a) Puck is starting to get ~feelings and he doesn't trust himself near Kurt, or b) Puck doesn't want to be obvious about the relationship they started during the summer.

Even with Puck as the bartender, Kurt's presence on the bar was so random that I have to agree with you: total gift to Puckurt shippers.
