According to who? Judging from my knowledge of certain "nice guys" I'm close to, it can be extremely difficult. While he may exaggerate, he makes a good point.
What I'm wondering is why "nice guys" are chasing girls who don't date "nice guys." There are plenty of girls out there who will, so why complain about the exceptions?
It's a generalization, dumbass. But to discuss this situation further, say this one girl, his friend, is his "unicorn"? The one girl he wants the most but can never have. Would you leave her?
