It's a curious anomaly. I'm not sure what to make of it. Input's required based on known information in order to resolve this.
What we know is that part of the population has been swept away. Have we begun to experience what other worlds experienced so long ago, when Sveste came to consciousness once more? They're still in contact, however. Perhaps because our technologies are made to span over space, and soon time. But whatever it is, it's strong enough to block it enough that we can't get witness accounts.
