i've been looking at it for a little while, and it seems pretty smooth, imho. anyway, there are some benefits for me...like, c#, which i'm already heavily certified on, is a direct rip-off of java, so the learning curve won't be so bad. not that it would be bad with c++...i already know c++ in a basic sense, i'd just need to learn to use gtk or some of the other gui libraries.
and actually, maybe that's the key point -- java is probably the closest succesful attempt at a cross platform language that i know of...unless one uses a lot of native code, it doesn't seem like there would be significant changes involved in porting an app written in java, where as in c++/.net you'd have to AT LEAST recode ALL gui elements.
anyway, i'm sure it's not perfect, but my question to you, dear brother to the north, is what's so bad about it?
