Preparing to Resist Radioactivity

Nuclear plants in Japan are melting down, and radioactive clouds are headed our way across the Pacific. We have time to prepare...but what should we do? I am full of ideas, but mind you, this is not medical advice! Just the random rantings of some stranger on the internet! I don't think it's wise to jump the gun and start taking iodine or potassium iodide preemptively. This is a situation where we need to heed the advice of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: DON'T PANIC.

That said, if you live within 10 miles of a nuclear power plant, you absolutely should have Potassium Iodide (KI) tablets in your home. Parts of my county are within 10 miles of two separate nuclear plants, and our health department gives KI tablets away for free to residents in that 10 mile zone.

Moderators, can someone please remove this post? This is adding to hysteria, and does not contribute to the proper clinical and public health discourse concerning radiation health.
