how are you all finding the job market right now and/or for soon to be graduates from a MPH program. I am focusing on Environmental Health. any luck? thanks everyone and stay healthy!
I work for a county health department, and around here the situation is mixed. Our environmental health division is in pretty bad shape... no layoffs, but only because 2 people left voluntarily (one retired, another got a better job elsewhere). The reason for this is that our E.H. division is supposed to generate some of its own revenue by charging for well/septic system inspections and other services, and the crash in the housing market has meant far less need for inspections, and thus, less revenue.
The health clinic and health education are doing a lot better. We're applying for - and receiving - a lot of grants, which means we're hiring for those positions even as the rest of our county government is in a hiring freeze.
I don't know if this applies everywhere, but around here, jobs for people with MPHs are harder to find in big cities, and easier to find in smaller towns where there are fewer people competing for the jobs.

What exactly do you want to do in E.H.?
