From last night...

Was having dinner with Joan last night when she said something that I never ever considered. It is a matter that seemed so simple that and obvious that I wondered why it never ever occurred to me. We were discussing the subject of babies and my grand plans in a perfect world, where unicorns exist and I won't have to swap my wife's pills for tic ( Read more... )

I don't think it matters that much what time of the year you are born.. depends more on study habits, motivation, parenting, nutrition, etc.. I am born at the end of November, yet had no problems competing academically with my peers who were born earlier in the year
p.s. and I finished university a year earlier too than those born in January, so an extra year to enjoy post academic life compared to them :P

(once you have kids, you'll be so busy with them 24/7 (the first few years anyway) you'll have nothing else to write about.. *lol*)

I totally agree with Erik!
I was born in July and though I developed late accademically, when I was 13, I had no issues pulling in my grades and getting to where I am right now :)
T is a late Nov kid like Erik. He was too young to attend school in Colorado and his parents had to move to California so that he could attend schools there. He skipped two grades in school. His IQ is pretty high :) So I really don't think it makes a difference at all! I know many people born in December even and scoring well in school and going on scholarships too.

So I had say - it really doesn't matter and if the kid is smart, they'll naturally catch up anyway ;)

Oh no, I'm not talking about their development later in life, I'm talking about much earlier on. I agree with you and Erik, that later on it doesn't *directly* factor in.

For example, going to Monte Sori at like 3 years old, or additional language tuition at 4, music lessons, motor skill development and spatial coordination, etc etc.

When you're, I guess competing is not the right work, but comparing the skills development of your say 4 year old to others of the same age, 1 year can make a huge difference such as whether he's born in Jan of 2011 or December 2011.

As they get older this becomes somewhat irrelevant, but in those very very early years, I imagine that it does factor into the equation.

Correct but at that young age, will you really be comparing them with other kids in their class? I just feel that at that age, 5 and below, they should be enjoying their childhood and playing.

Wow. I got an entire blog entry about ME! Ok, not technically about me. But inspired by me.

I wager $50. And no cheating! You can't INTENTIONALLY not blog about your kid even if every fibre of your being screams that you should.

Easiest $50 I'll ever earn! :) And you know me, as in I'm even capable of intentionally not blogging about something of which I want to blog about! I think my brain would explode.

Like if my kid projectile urinated into my face and I had force myself not to post about that... I'd go into conniptions...
