Le Petit Escargot- The Little Snail

Aug 24, 2008 23:46

It's been quite a while since I've been to the The Little Snail. In fact, the last time I was here was about 11 years ago for a dinner to celebrate the birthday of an old school friend now piece of shit ex-business partner whom ripped me and his other friends/partners off. The prick....

Annnnnyway....The Little Snail used to be based at Broadway and their current premises at Pyrmont sure look a heck of a lot better now than it used to. Erica and I both love Escargot and it's been a long while since we've had them. Plus it was it was also walking distance from the IMAX theatre where we had planned to watch The Dark Knight earlier.

For some reason, Escargot doesn't seem to be as popular here in Sydney as I thought it would be. Erica and I both grew up eating it in Singapore and wished it was more readily available around these parts.

The Little Snail bills itself as a French Restaurant but I have to say the only thing French about it is the Escargots. That's basically it! The fare on offer is pretty run of the mill modern Australian but who cares... I'm just there for the snails :) Plus the prices are very reasonable so you won't really hear any complaints from me. The food isn't great enough for me to go back if it wasn't for the snails. It's not that the food wasn't good, it's just that it wasn't fantastic or original. I have to admit though that the service was absolutely impeccable.

Dipping bread in the garlic butter. So good.....

The Escargots were great especially after not having eaten them in so long. For the first time we got bread to mop up the garlic and herb butter with and boy..... it was so good. Can't believe I haven't done this before.

Speaking of snails, it reminded me of the time in Singapore when I used to think the snails I ate were the plain old garden variety snails. I remember once having steamboat, I picked up a couple of snails off the ground (al fresco dining) and tossed them in the steamboat pot. Don't think they were too impressed with that....

Kangaroo Fillet on mash with dijon & honey glaze

Beef Fillet on garlic mash with mushroom & red wine jus

Kahlua Infused Chocolate Mousse

Vanilla and Marscapone Crepes with Strawberry Compote

Once again, the sucky thing about using a DSLR is that it's pretty tough to get people to take a photo of the both of you well! So 90% of the time you're stuck with taking tourist style photos of each other. Still practicing but am getting much better optimising the settings for shooting in dim light!
