how did you make fried ice cream?

It's pretty simple actually. Pre-Scoop the vanilla ice cream into compact balls and sit it in the freezer until they are hard.

Get some madeira cake (type of sponge cake) and cut it into thin slices. Then wrap and compress those cake slices around the ice cream ball until its totally covered. Make sure you put about two layers as some may break off during the deep frying process.

Put it back into the freezer until it's rock hard again. Then when its time to cook, just dump it in oil thats very hot because you just want to fry or crisp the outside. If it's not hot enough, the coating may break and the inside will leak.

Ah, I have always been curious how it's made. I like the madeira version you did here, and it seems to be the only one I can find, but I have memories of a hot, thin, crispy batter too. How I want to find it again!

i've been to Parramatta several times, without noticing Charcoal Mine!
Will drag my friend to show me the place next time.
fried Ice cream? hm.. maybe fried mars bar will be next?

That's probably because Charcoal Mine is away from the CBD, near North Parramatta McDonalds. It's on the corner of Church St and Fennel St :)

I've never tried Fried Mars Bars though I've heard about it. It sounds..... almost disgustingly rich! haha. Don't think I could take it!
