Last week,
dork_grrl posted about a
woman standing on the corner in downtown Escondido holding up "No on Prop 8" signs. As an Escondido resident, I was amazed that she did this; this is a very conservative pocket of San Diego County. I was impressed.
Our neighborhood looks like someone ran around throwing little seeds of hate on every perfectly manicured lawn a few weeks ago. Fed on the morning dew of ignorance and bigotry, they have now sprouted like weeds into bright yellow signs of cowardice proclaiming that heterosexual marriage is under attack! We must save the childrens from the gays! It is revolting. And it's everywhere up here. For a woman to stand up and publically proclaim otherwise up here is a big deal.
(I can't help but wonder how these people would feel if "heterosexual" were edited to read "single race" and "gays" changed to "blacks." I have a ton of thoughts on this that have been bubbling just beneath the skin for quite some time, so I will save that for another ranty post.)
Here's the important part.
