The Challenge

Goal 1: 3 hours / week on a personal project: I kept track this time! In April, I: finished redesigning my Wikidot site; brainstormed some board game ideas; tagged all of my LiveJournal entries; brainstormed a software project; volunteered with anailia to plant a garden for a nonprofit organization; and brainstormed a possible future ( Read more... )

My BMI is around 27. I need to drop back down to maybe 185 or so. The lowest BMI I've had since high school is 24.5, which I thought was too thin. My optimal weight is around 185, but Katie's optimal weight for me is 190. My weight loss usually involves just changing diet, since I already work out a fair bit.

As for the other goals I've stolen from you, I've slowed my pace of econ essays, but I think quality has improved. I'll post my essay for my econ class in summary. After another half dozen or so essays, I'll start to rewrite the ones I've done so far to make them better. After I've gotten them where I want them, I'd like to get a webcam and record maybe 10-20 min videos explaining the concepts and put them on youtube.

Sure, I'll do it. According to my BMI, I'm obese. Super...

I might suggest you use an estimation of body fat percentage, instead of BMI for your challenge. After all, as I tell everyone who is trying to get into better shape, your goal isn't really to lose weight; it's to lose fat. BMI doesn't work for me: At 5' 9" and 172 pounds, I'm considered overweight, but I have approximately 14% body fat, which is pretty good (I'm trying to get myself down to 10% at the moment ( ... )

No problem. Just let me know what you decide to do. If you'll be measuring body fat percentage, I'll definitely join you on your challenge. I don't expect my BMI to go down anytime soon, at least not by much, since my diet and workout routine have me gaining muscle, even as I lose fat.

I know that I've been immensely happier with my own health since I started weightlifting (and subsequently, switching to CrossFit). I'm normally a fairly competitive guy by nature, but if you and your friends are serious about getting in better shape, then yours is one challenge I won't mind losing. :)
