Infinity is an intriguing, fascinating concept, and pondering the nature thereof is something that has from time to time occupied my mind since I first started pondering the nature of things. You can go read the Wikipedia article on infinity to get much of what I'm about to write here, plus things I've left out, but I'm also going to try to relate

Yes, Goedel, Escher, Bach was a very formative book for me. Or even more than that, since there was plenty of that stuff I already knew about and liked, but it was nice to see it in literary form.
