Magna Ichor Sporiporifera
The large, semi-sentient sponge bearing fungi found on planets in the Centauri system, which feeds on complex amino acids most commonly found in the neural fluids of organisms with complex higher brain function.
Magna Ichor Sporiporifera is found primarily in Class 2 or greater Ipsom Sempervirens, or "Smart Forests"; feeding off the great fiber-brained flora found in the area. Their close relatives, Ichor Sporiporifera grow in sparser climates, absorbing the remains of animals. These were first discovered by early Centauri settlers in graveyards; thus the colloquial term, "soul scrubber".

That's great, thank you! :3 I like the "sporipori" bit, that sounds kind of like simlish. After changing Centauri to Simtauri the simlish flavour will be sufficient.

If we find another S-word to add to its name the colloquial term can be "Miss Soul Scrabber". :D Maybe just Simtauri since that's where they were discovered. Hm, what would be the right declension to say "from Simtauri"? Simtaurae? My Latin is rusty.

"feeds on complex amino acids most commonly found in the neural fluids of organisms with complex higher brain function." Does that mean it's eating sims, too? :O

I just had the best idea ever! I'll take that smallest plant and make it a modded object that raises the social bar. Sims can feed it, pat it, talk to it, read to it (all basegame animations), like a pet plant. Because it can get lonely out there. As a pet it won't have all that scientific description of course. It wil be simply named Alfred. :D

Oh that's right. I forgot the name of the sim-star-system in question. :P

Ha! I dig it. I think just tacking on Simtauri at the end sounds right... but I don't actually know about the proper suffix.

I imagine it could... I think mostly they're passive decomposers... mostly.
But I could imagine a situation where a sim falls asleep, and the MISS decides they have a particularly tasty personality...

:D
Pet brain eating sponge space mushroom! I love that.

I don't usually leave comments but I just had to say that sounds brilliant, both Alfredaskew's description and Psychosim's idea to make the smallest one a pet... I want a pet brain eating sponge space mushroom now! :) *wonders if it would be possible to clone the cowplant as well*

Thanks for all the amazing space themed stuff, by the way!

You're welcome for all the amazing space themed stuff! :)

I haven't tried it yet but I think cloning the cowplant wouldn't be a big problem. Just animating the new plant would mean a lot of work. Not impossible but not something that I could do. The eating sims and milking life juice interactions should transfer fine, though. I will test that with another alien plant I'm working on. ;)

This is a neat looking specimen!

I realize you already have a few offers...but I couldn't resist the invitation to give something a name!

Basidia Elongoria aka The Lorax

Galaxia Simtauri Prime simply would not exist if it were not for this magnificent beast of a plant. For centuries, it grew in the wild on the Southern Simland Plateau in relative solitude. That is, until the Great Usluggo Plague that took the lives of over half the GSP population, infecting the liquid libation supply with cosmic goo and ravishing the land of all plant life...with the exception of the Basidia Elongoria (no relations to Eva). In desperation, the natives restlessly partook of the sporogenous plant, which not only provided sustenance, but has psychotropically enhanced the reality of those living in GSP.

Thanks for your suggestion! Sorry it took me so long to respond!

I think I misread your story the first time as this plant being the antidote to some serious plague. I like that idea, though, will probably use it for another plant. The idea of mind-augmentating effects is interesting, too. You know that bubble blower thing that came with University? I think I'll make a version of that with a plant in the middle, or at least a plant that is designed to cover the object nicely. So then sims can suck that plant's juice and get high on that. :D
