Using a lot of large, beautiful words in a sentence does not automatically make them melodiously work together to make some sort of sense. this, i think, is what usually makes a "bad" poem. overwriting seems to be a pretty common mountain that one learns to climb over when they first start writing. it seems like i've read a lot of poems and livejournal entries lately that i want to edit to half their length. also, i am a snob. I know that I have a fear of overwriting and underwriting. They are both a bit aggravating. I just didn't realize how much it bothered me until I was going through a lot of my friend's page...
I think I need to start writing on my graphic novel again. It was a good exercise in balance. Since you have to describe enough for an artist to draw a page from, but also write dialogue that isn't too overblown or unrealistic.
