Having been in the kitchen getting a snack, Layer heard the noises and went looking.

Looking at the damaged door and wall of Nightmare's room, she figured she'd found the source.

She knocked. "...Hello?"

The sheer silence following Layer's query was probably answer enough that something was wrong.

At most -- and noticeable, perhaps, only to someone with senses keyed as highly as hers could be -- there was the faint sound of now-muffled keening.

Well, that wasn't good. She surveyed the door, trying to decide how best to get past it.

Then she removed the hinges and pulled it out of the wall entirely. Setting it to one side, she looked in, and projected to the room's occupant, when she realized who it must be,

:: *concern* Nightmare? It's me, Layer. The Navigator? *self-ID* Are you physically injured...? ::

On the other side of the door was a desk, a few books and a lamp still perched precariously on top of it and a trail of texts and datapads suggesting its original position.

The huddled bundle of clothing and pink hair increased its keening; the spatters of blood on the bedclothes and the walls gave the answer to Layer's question that Nightmare himself wasn't supplying.
