Idk, I guess I don't see selling an organ as an "ethical dilemma", it's more of practicality for me...
And, how much we're talking. That's really the bottom line.
Is it worth $10,000 for me to go under the knife in a potential dangerous environment and live the rest of my life depending on one organ to work properly where I once had a backup... Uh, no.
But $1,000,000, well now why didn't you say so to begin w/!? That's another story entirely.
See, the human liver will re-grow. So if they take part of my liver and put it in you, my liver will grow back and your part will grow into a full liver too, right? So why can't I put some of my liver in like a storage bank, so when I get cirrhosis of the liver from all my drinking, I just run by the hospital and they pop that new baby in? Sounds great! And to defray the cost of storage for my liver, they can donate parts of it to other liver patients who can have new livers too. There's not any reason any of us shouldn't have a backup liver.
Kidneys on the other hand... I can't grow a new one of those (c'mon stem cell research!), and I might fuck one up if I give the other one away, y'know?
