Does "Hi" count as a first word?

HI!

Yes that's what she said Hi! While waving at every single person she saw. It started when I was leaving the house last night about 6:30pm to go pick up dinner for a friend indrigirl as a thank you for watching our cat Salome and a chance to socialize with her since I don’t get to see her enough. It probably does count. As independent, unprompted communication, using a word correctly to express herself, it counts. It could be debated on if she understands how she is using it, or just thinks that is what one does when faced with a new person walking past her without understanding. Of course, it is a simple concept-how to greet a person when first seen-and even if she does not grasp the entire idea, she is probably close enough to get it.

My first word was "hot" (as an independent, unprompted communication, using a word correctly to express myself), but was not used in the exact way the word is meant. I had learned the day before that putting one's hand into hot coffee resulted in the sensation I was told is called "hot." The next day, when I got stung by a bee, I exclaimed "hot! hot!" to describe my experience. Not perhaps the precise meaning, but functionally correct (bee stings do feel hot, but most people with a less limited vocabulary would not use that description first).

Awww! Sounds like she's fine with greeting people who don't stare at her. But ones who DO look at her make her a little shy.

Ahhhhh! So cute! Maybe saying "Hi" is just a good way to get people to look at her. If they are already looking at her, there's no reason to say it.
