Ha, I knew without even clicking that it was written by Ken Tucker. If you read anything by him that pertains to Psych, it's obvious he hates the show. He even managed to get a dig at them while reviewing another show... who's name escapes me now. Psych can do almost nothing right in his eyes. If EW can't find someone who likes Psych, at least give the review to someone who's not so biased.
Obviously if you haven't watched before then you're not going to know who Abigail is so that made no sense to bring up. And if you've never watched the show, the finale of season 4 probably isn't a good place to start.
I would like him to find me a current show that allows you to completely understand a show based on a season finale that is seasons into the show. How is that even a criteria for the episode? Of course you aren't going to know who Abagail is if you've never seen the show before! You won't know who ANYONE is. The show should not be writing for people that haven't seen it before in an episode like this.
I wonder if this guy realizes that formulas on TV, such as a crime-solving, bickering pair like Shawn and Gus, are formulas for a reason. It's how they are USED that makes a show interesting, and I think Psych is anything but formulaic in that regard.
Whatever, this guy can go screw himself. It's one of the highest rated cable shows ever for a reason.
At least it wasn't full of obvious bashing bias and self-centered trolling as the previous review posted here. He seemed to be touching things very lightly. I'm going to guess he got a lot of hate from the Psych Community as he mentions the fans quite a few times. He DID mention he liked a few episodes, which is a LOT more then he did last time.
Honestly, though, I agree with ewokmonster. EW needs to give the show to someone who's obviously not biased against it. Ken Tucker is not a good reviewer when it comes to something he doesn't like. His 'reviews' come off as trolling for the sake of trolling. It's obvious he doesn't like Psych. Not to mention the guy looks like he's in his 60's. This show obviously isn't in his demography to begin with.
No. Any review should be from someone who knows the show and understands what the show is trying to do, they don't have to like it. This reviewer isn't that great. I will say that. The episode was well done. And I hadn't been happy with the last few episodes. It was engaging and actually kept you on your toes.
The show isn't unoriginal. The reviewer is too caught up with the Law and Order generation and Monk. The show is still fresh and new. Sorry The Mentalist can be nominated for awards and for whatever reason Psych hasn't been.

Unless, of course, you forgot on purpose - then, carry on. However, I like both shows for different reasons. :)
