One additional source of water often forgotten is the toilet tank. If the situation in any way looks like it might be an extended issue, put a garbage bag in the toilet so that waste can just be bagged and thrown away. It's not the most pleasant source of water, but desperate times...

This is the checklist you're supposed to have for your pets should you need to evacuate with them to a shelter. It's not a bad idea to gather it together regardless. I need to do it myself. :/

• a travel carrier or wire crate;
• bedding;
• leashes;
• collars or harnesses with identification, even if your pet does not normally wear such;
• food for at least three days;
• food and water bowls;
• medications for at least three days;
• documentation for vaccinations (rabies, etc.), microchip information, and pet registration, if required; and
• a current photo of the pet.
