Title: The Lowiest of Creatures
Author: Anodracs
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 155 (*&%$ it...)
Characters: Leon, Count D, Chris
Notes: Response to challenge #269. Inspired by gegeanne's drabble, and by the moth hanging out over the door of the room that I'm in.
P.S. Thank you all for the comments regarding the previous week's drabble!

To retreat into one's own mind...
Forgetting his body, he stared at the creature above the doorframe, the subtle patterning, the fan-like spread of resting wings. Visions, pupae and chrysalis, heat, light, dark, cold, pine needles, owls. The echoes of millions of years, taking shape over the slowly changing earth. Cigarette smoke... wait, what?
D jerked back shoving the detective's hand away from his throat. Leon recoiled, equally startled. "What the hell are you on, trancing out like that? Chris was in a panic, said you weren't breathing. I ought to haul your ass down to county right now..."
A shadow, disturbed by the change of air currents, fluttered in Leon's face. "Goddamn moth!" the detective muttered, reaching up to swat the insect. Something moved like lightning...

"Bad news, Chris." Leon said, exiting the room, nursing a welt on his forearm. "He may have looked dead to you, but he's sure as hell alive now!"
