Stepping into Leon’s office for a quick noontime visit, Chris and D’s ears were assailed by loud, violent four-letter words. The Count clapped his hands over the boy’s ears, looking about for the source of the commotion.
Leon and the chief were glaring at each other from across a desk. The detective’s face was beet red, and his boss was rending a sheet of paper.
“Is this a bad time?” D inquired of Jill. Jill rolled her eyes “Not really. They’re just figuring out what they want on their pizza.”
