D is handling a particularly delicate specimen today.

The Antimachus Swallowtail is eleven inches of frail, pulsing wings - orange, black, and very toxic. Importing her from Uganda was a nightmare. She hasn’t spoken yet, but D thinks the flight has tired her. She is beautiful, and unspeakably pale.

The little boy she belongs to twitches in his wheelchair and smiles. His mother presses the jar carefully into his hands and smiles back.

D watches them go. The boy will die. But this time it will have nothing to do with his newly acquired pet. Insects do not live very long.

A/N: The Antimachus Swallowtail is a butterfly native to Africa.
