One opinion.
Go on then sell me on this twitter thing. Why should I use it? Would it be worthwhile to me? Is there any point to it other than more noise to signal...?

I still haven't got the point of it...

As far as I can see, it's another "social network" thing like facebook (which I only joined this year)...

The only benefit I can see is that one of my fave websites often does competitions via twitter...

If you get any "yey I'm a twit...terer, and it's good for XYZ reasons" type answers, I might change my mind...

I'll be watching this space. :)

It's for:
-: Sending short, simple messages to friends. @messages are basically about having a laugh with someone, but in a 'public place'. Which is handy if they're messages of support, as you'd want others to do the same.

-: Making wry comments on the world/venting. This ties into Facebook, so it's basically the same thing as facebook status updates, just snappier.

-: Seeing the wry comments made by people you like hearing wry comments from.

-: For playing Fallen London .

I've used both Facebook and Twitter for a while now and come to a conclusion...

Facebook is for people you actually have a relationship with.

Twitter you use for people you would *like* to have a relationship with.

Using Twitter it is possible to follow any number of celebs - authors, actors, directors, musicians etc and get random updates about their life. This can either be very irritating or really good depending on what you want and who you follow. For example, both Simon Pegg and Nathan Fillion are quite cool to follow as both seem to understand how to use the medium sensibly. Others are less interesting.

In general, Twitter has less features than facebook which means it has less functionality but also that it is less buggy.

Dont see the point of twitter at all. As a comedian said , it appears to have taken over from muttering crap to yourself while in the house alone.

So what you are saying is
"Twitter is for stalkers"

I use twitter, though I don't post much. However when I have posted and it's been a moan about some company or other, they've been very quick to contact me and get it sorted.

So, I'd say it's useful but only for getting decent service out of companies that are otherwise terrified of getting a bad rep online. (Virgin Media, Royal Mail, a couple of others too)

(Incidentally, this post is flagged as unsuitable for minors. Why?)
