So I just finished reading Ysabel.  Or skimming, really, since I was getting bored and wanted to be able to put it down (NOT a good sign).

Now, I'm generally a Guy Gavriel Kay fan, but really, what is with him and love triangles?

I mean, there are other sources of conflict, dude.

(sigh)

I know. Dude, sometimes, people fight over things besides a woman!

And I'm sorry, but not being able to be with your sweetie is not the WORST MOST HORRIBLE TRAGIC STORY EVER. Especially not compared with, say, brutal massacres.

Honestly, I believe in true love, but give a choice between losing Fajitas to another woman or dying horribly? I'd suck it up, be tremendously unhappy for a while, and wish him luck with her.

To be fair, Kay's totally willing to deliver horrible massacres, like, say, in Arbonne. And actually, Arbonne has a central theme of the Tragic Love Triangle being a Stupid Thing that is messing up a perfectly good country, and where the woman involved was pretty shallow and selfish.

Of course, my brain is now trying to imagine modern scenarios in which one has to give up your spouse or else die horribly. "Sign these divorce papers now or be sent to a secret CIA jail!"

And no, there's no bondage, although there is an Older Woman Willing To Teach Young Naive Hero Secret Kissing Techniques. Though, frankly, most 16-year-old boys could use some serious kissing instruction.

Don't know, I was skimming through half of it, so he could have sneaked in a scene without me noticing :-)
