I am skeptical that change will occur, as it's quite clear to me that many people still, even after this tragedy, lack any sort of understanding of human suffering or the challenges presented by poverty.
"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well

I'm kinda glad that Kerry wasn't picked for this term. All the things Bush Jr. has to have corrected would have buried Kerry, and it would have cost the democrats a lot more than pride for these four years. At least with this term, Bush can't be re-elected. Not to mention, on the offchance the democratic party can find another Bill Clinton, it might be the same as it was when Clinton took office for eight years after Reagan and Bush, which, to say the least, was amazing for the US insofar of politics and economy.
But, there is a better candidate out there(read: Barack Obama). Whatever the political affiliation, he is the only politican that I admire.

They are doing what they can..but do you really think the reporters or the general audience care? "DOG JUST RESCUED FROM A STRONG CURRENT." I think it's fair to say that a majority of the population values humans over animals.

I'm a dissenter by blood. I'm very opinionated, and I want people to challenge my thoughts.
Also, a lot of people put meaningless dribble, in the form of online tests, to show their sex life from answering ten very generalized questions, including myself. I, however, want people to think more outside the realm of online quizzes and "Which As I Lay Dying member are you?" questionaires.

I've been following the pet situation, and various pet related organizations, Petsmart among them, have been collecting money for the animals, and planning rescues/stated adoption processes/find the owner.
The problem is, the military has been refusing to let people in to get the pets and a lot of them have been running rampant on their own.
The humane societies and pounds evacuated and left all animals locked in cages. But luckily, the majority of those animals survived by swimming for 10+ hours. Some couldn't hold on any longer, and all that survived are severely traumatized.
There are lots of people trying to do something for the pets, they're just waiting for the chance to be allowed.
