Who Could It Be? Believe It or Not, It's Just Me

Other than a single oblique reference to attending an official Star Trek convention in my last entry, I haven't really posted around here about the fact that I've been doing a bunch of con-related travelling lately--especially to Worldcon, having gone to both Dublin 2019 in Ireland and DisCon III in Washington this past December ( Read more... )

Agreed! I felt very privileged to be so involved, and the con itself was a lot of fun.

Wow, that's insanely impressive! Were you able to attend all seven?

The tie-in novel one and the 1990s one are the topics I found most interesting. I read somewhere that despite nostalgia for the 60s, 70s, and 80s, we will probably never see nostalgia for the 90s because the 90s didn't have anything to say culturally. I think I disagree with that, although I will add that retroactively the 90s mostly viewed as the last time period before the war on terror.

Which panel did you enjoy the most?

Yes, luckily, I was able to keep to the schedule I agreed to and appear on all seven panels.

I was also particularly interested in discussing tie-in novels, since (as I mentioned) I'm pretty defensive of them in fandom spaces. The panel worked out well, and I got to plug plenty of Star Trek titles both past and present. :)

I would only half-agree with that point about the Nineties and cultural dialogue--that decade was when popular culture started to fragment because more people were getting online, so it's hard to mine for nostalgia because different people will be nostalgic for a greater variety of things compared to previous decades.

My favourite panel that I was on would be the one about time travel...probably because I was the most worried about it, but nothing disastrous happened. :P

Your enthusiasim for tie-in novels is greatly appreciated! I enjoy them quite a bit and hope for more.

Right now I'm listening to Enigma Tales which is fun because I'm interested in post-War Cardassia.

I'm glad you got to enjoy yourself!
