You See, It's Never Too Late and It's Never Too Soon

I haven't talked about it in quite a while, but from time to time, I still continue to get autographed items in response to letters I sent out for the charity auction I held two years ago...

On May 21, for example, I got this autographed postcard of Julie Newmar:

Seems pretty cool, right? Especially with Batman once again back in the public consciousness? I thought so, too, but check out the rather suggestive text that came with it:

Well, I suppose a cougar is a member of the cat family...

Julie Newmar, of course, is perhaps best known for playing Catwoman longer than either of her other two incarnations opposite Adam West on Batman, as well as Eleen of Capella IV in the classic Star Trek episode "Friday's Child." Other genre series she has appeared in include The Twilight Zone, Get Smart, Bewitched, The Bionic Woman, Jason of Star Command, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, and Fantasy Island. More recently, she's been in several cult films, such as the classic Ghosts Can't Do It, along with Oblivion and its sequel, and she even has a cult film with her name in the title.

Two days later, I received a much more standard publicity photo of Evanna Lynch:

Ireland's Evanna Lynch got her big break by beating thousands of other applicants to be cast as Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and she will reprise the role in this year's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I wrote to her shortly after she was announced in the role...

...which means it took her 794 days to get back to me. Likewise, Julie Newmar's postcard arrived 853 days after I sent her letter out in early 2006.

Once I have the time and the means, I still hope to auction off these newer items online, though I'll probably get ambitious again and write new letters to people who have gotten genre attention since the original auction (the cast and crew of Heroes, for example). Raise-a-Reader deserves to get the proceeds, after all, since that's why I sought out these items in the first place.

When that happens, you'll be the first to know.
