The Arizona RenFair is pretty much the same thing, year after year. We went on the 20th Anniversary year and it seemed no different than the year before, the year before that, or the year before that. (Plus scripted jousting. Back when we went to the Texas RenFair, the jousting wasn't scripted. I hear it is these days.)

The biggest change this year was they moved Dexter Tripp to a different stage. You should totally go see Dexter Tripp if he shows up to your local RenFair. His balancing/juggling act is amazing.

I think our fest has the same acts for the most part. There's a juggler (whose name escapes me, though his assistant offspring include "Staple" and "Thumbtack"), the Snot Brothers, and a female group called "The Fickleb*tches" (yeah, I know, the asterisk is barely a fig leaf. Grin).

Really, what got me thinking was the food. KC's got the usual (turkey legs, funnel cakes, etc.), but I can't recall the last time a new item was added. I mean, given the advances in deep-frying technology, the stuff we have is practically healthy!

Darn! If Bethesda did it, they owe us their own commercial version!

I soooo wanted to go to that one and see friends, but have to wait until White Hart in South MO. WH's not scripted if you're looking for a good time there.

The Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, WI is on about 30 acres, but it also is the same thing, over...and over...and over...

Almost. There are some changes each year, but most of them are pretty subtle if you don't know the place by heart. (I've been going there for 15 years, so I know it pretty well by now.) The most noticable change in the last few years, of course, would be the nautical themed area with the "pirate ship," but being in that open area with no shade, I think it probably gets a little less attention than it deserves!

The real variety is in the stage acts. I love my favorites, but there's someone new there just about every weekend.

Oh and that glass blower with the dragon? He has a booth at Bristol. He does amazing work, doesn't he?

He was amazing to watch. I almost want a torch like his more than the glass (though my homeowner's insurance would probably skyrocket).

I forgot to mention Wichita's pirates! They had two setups, I believe, and they're quite extensive for a "temporary" structure. One ship was two levels at least.

You can download the clock page as a screensaver as well.

Some friends and I are talking about the KC faire this fall -- any useful hints? The "get information" link on their page doesn't like my e-mail program.

Hmmm. I'm not sure what their theme(s) are this year, though I think they wrap up around Columbus day with lots of "new world" events. If you dig jewelry (which is one of Cristi's weaknesses for faires and conventions), the "Vulcan's Forge" booth/cart is always a good bet. There's also a booth with very cool blown glass stuff and some cartoony crockery dragons (incense burners, mostly) though I forget the name.

It'll be a bit different for us this year as we'll probably be taking the nephews, who are just now old enough to try out all of the games (though I might hide behind a tree while they're doing things with arrows. Grin).

Squee! They just said "full frontal nerdity" on the episode of "Better Off Ted" I was watching (the latest one).
