The cartoon quote in question was filler in a "Real Ghostbusters" episode, where they cut to an expert named "Rune, Ancient".

I enjoyed the show quite a bit at the time, but found it unwatchable when I tried again a few years later. A distressing number of cartoons (and non-cartoons!) I'd enjoyed are in that category.

It's nice to know my memory isn't totally fried. And I wasn't sure if I was confusing my Rooney-memories with the often-lampooned Jack Valenti on "Freakazoid." I also think they did Paul Harvey for the infamous "Candlejack" episode.

The Black Money scheme has been around for a couple years, but I'm guessing it's seeing a recent surge as it's working its way through the scammer 'community'.

Like you said, it's a variant of the classic scheme, wherein the scammer tells the mark that they somehow need the help of some random person, but doing so requires a bit of money, etc. The typical term for this is 'Advance Fee Fraud', since the most common version was where the scammer would promise to send money via Western Union, but an 'advance fee' was required for sending such a large transaction...

The one that always has me gnashing my teeth is 'Lemmings undergo mass migration and suicide'. Thank you so VERY much, Disney's 'White Wilderness', where they actually had to build special turntables to show 'migrating' lemmings and pushed the poor little fuzzies off a cliff with a broom.

Mind, I did enjoy the Lemmings game on my Amiga. "Oh no!!"*POP*

Amiga Lemmings were a staple, along with "Populous."

I remember a sci-fi story that played off the lemming myth. Basically, some kind of energy creature came to Earth in its primordial stage, reproduced, and then left its offspring on the planet, promising to return to take it "home," which was, presumably, the creatures' planet of origin with civilization and stuff. Something happened to the parent being, as it never returned, but the offspring, in a desperate attempt to keep cohesion, started putting its consciousness into various species of animals, migrating to the same spot every year to make sure that it didn't miss its ride.

Naturally, the punchline is that the final species it put itself into before losing its "mind" was lemmings, and the spot where it had to return to was now under water.

Has Josh been introduced to The Muppet Christmas Carol yet?

Not yet, though we do have the old John Denver album somewhere, I think.

I did like the quote from the Muppet version of Dickens:

Rizzo the Rat: Boy, that's scary stuff! Should we be worried about the kids in the audience?
Gonzo: Nah, it's all right. This is culture!

In the past the Black Money" con has been the end game of the Nigerian scammers...wresting every last penny from their victims that they can. It has been around for a LONG time now...

It's probably cyclical. Or, like movies, a new spin gets put on it or what have you.

Now we just need someone to figure out how to do something similar to what went on with the e-mail scams and convince the con-men to enact Monty Python sketches for YouTube or something.
