. . . huh. Nifty! Fairly simple setup, once you think about it. Just need to have two copies of the level operating at the same time, with one being paused (or updated) when you hit the button... This could have some interesting applications.

I am fairly certain a chorus of angels was heard upon seeing those, though as noted, reality may be a bit more difficult.

There was considerable discussion as to what should be placed in such bowls. Chocolate pudding was a major contender, but I think the optimal dessert/awesome ratio would be achieved by taking TWO of them, encapsulating a scoop of ice cream, and frosting/sealing the works in unheated hot fudge (yes, I know this is normally just 'fudge', but you know what I mean).

That almost sounds like fried ice cream (which I had in a Sushi restaurant, not a state fair. Grin).

And if refrigeration/freezing is a problem, your idea could substitute cheesecake for the ice cream. Though I'd probably still end up just eating both before I got too far into construction, but it's the thought that counts.

"Doctor? Doctor who? I mean, who is he..." (Ian Chesteron, in the second episode ever broadcast)

The War Machines is one of my favourite First Doctor stories, and the sidequel novel (The Time Travellers by Simon Guerrier) is pretty good too - it features an alternate future where WOTAN succeeded.

Given that the Doctor used to visit faraway planets in other galaxies quite a lot, I have been somewhat disappointed that the new series has spent so much time on near-present-day Earth... apparently Moffat's plan for next year is more standalone episodes, so maybe there's hope for seeing more of "all of time, all of space, everything that ever happened, everything that ever will..."

Terra Nova started here last night, I set the video to tape it and said I'd only watch to the first ad break (Doctor Who airs on our commercial-free channel here, so I really hate ads), and found myself hooked enough to watch all the way to the annoyingly-voiced-over end credits - so thanks for your thoughts/recommendation :)

I'm always reminded of the places the Doctor used to go that were completely out of time relevant to our own. While the monsters were a bit silly, the episode "Frontios" had him visiting (I think) the last colony of humans who were pretty much the last sentient species still around.

It'd be interesting if he visited someplace that had never heard of humans and never would, or was somehow divorced from the familiar Whoniverse.

As for Terra Nova, it aired its second (third, I guess) episode here, and it manages to stay consistent. It didn't up any antes, though. Still, third episodes are notoriously bland/self-contained.

Now I have to find something I can do while "watching" it in the background and play catch-up on my recorded shows.

At least it'll free up some memory as I go... :)

Anyway, the Doctor now says he has to retreat into the shadows for a while, which is kind of strange, since "for a while" would mean "forever, or enough of forever so they don't change that whole fixed point event thing," wouldn't it?

Or he could return to the old-series state where people simply stopped remembering the things he'd done - it's only in the new series that people remember, for example, how many times the world's nearly come to an end and aliens are in the newspapers and so on. Before that, the Doctor's visits simply weren't remembered - nor their villains - except by a very few (such as UNIT) who kept records.
