Ooooh, The Secret of Vulcan Fury, I remember that. I have a copy of the old game Starfleet Academy, and it would always play the trailer for Fury. I'd load up the game years after it came out, see the trailer, and wish it had been finished! Or at the very least, that the audio files had been released!
It's only a gripe about full disclosure, and isn't a reflection of what the final product will do, but Nintendo's recent spot showcasing all of the games for its next-gen Wii used a lot of game footage from the Xbox and PS3 without noting that to the audience.
But...but...Sony and Microsoft have both been doing this very same thing. For years, even. Showcasing their products not on their own hardware, or showcasing competitors' versions of their products because theirs aren't ready yet. And they don't exactly advertise it themselves, either. I still can't figure out why it's only when Nintendo (who generally prefers to run their products on their own systems) does it that people make a big deal out of it. It seems to be a running theme, though....Sony and MS do something, people look the other way. Nintendo does it, and it's the end of the world. People love to hate the ones on top!
If they're doing it to, then there ought to be some kind of E3-thing that lets the media know what they're being sold.
As for Nintendo, I think the only reason it's made a bigger deal is because this is supposed to be their first foray into what was being called "Next Gen" graphics hardware (I'm not sure what the exact specs are for that, but I'm guessing it's either a moving target or about to be renamed), so a lot of people, myself included, wanted to see the difference between the new stuff and what we're currently seeing on our Wii 1.0's.

Doesn't "Thomas and the Magic Railroad" from 2000 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0205461/) count as live action? I've endured it enough times with my rugrats to think so.

Yikes. Every time I see it, I can only thank goodness that by the time Josh gets old enough to care about TV, "Jay-Jay, the Jet Plane" will (hopefully) be gone. That CGI Thomas-clone just looked so disturbing...

I'd settle for a pre-rendered CGI Trek episode on DVD using the materials. How about it, Paramount?
