I shouldn't tempt fate, but I can't help thinking that the only thing Japan is still missing is Godzilla... the way their luck's going, it's only a matter of time.
I wonder how many Japanese people think these are the End Times? I'm sure there are parts of the country where it would certainly look like it right now.
Every time I hear about the Mayan Calendar, I want to find a way to include it in the old Aztec D&D adventure, "The Lost Shrine of Tamoachan." The players would find a calendar that someone could roughly decipher as ending on the day they arrived, with lots of glyphs showing the most hideous things happening to the players. :)

Adding a moment of geek pedantry...
While sais are often depicted as daggers (Elektra in Marvel Comics, for example), a real-life sai is a blunt weapon designed for punching, blocking, and trapping an opponent's weapon.

Agreed that sai are traditionally and correctly blunt. Also, I just need to mention that the TMNT (in the original pulp comics) were quite a bit darker/edgier/bloodier than they turned into in the show/movies. The edged weapons *did* cut and even kill. And yes, the comics also used sharp sai, as I recall.

Oh, yeah. I can still remember a lot of the pages where the turtles had been quite bloodied by whoever they were fighting.
And again, while I'm not for a bloodbath in a kids film, the second TMNT film had really been given the 'no violence' treatment to the point where in one instance, Michelangelo abandoned his nunchaku for a pair of large, linked sausages.

Also, Kama not comma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kama_(weapon)
Regarding the Wolverine rule, it's basically the same reason the A-team could go through thousands of rounds and no one gets hit.
