MediaWest and Footie

May 26, 2015 23:55

I got back from MediaWest last night in just enough time to inhale the dinner the Sweetie had prepared and dash off to the pitch for our first soccer game of the year. The games are now 7x7, on a bigger field, and using nearly a full-sized net. I thought the bigger goal might result in higher scores, but the need to run a bigger field seems to ( Read more... )

I'm glad you had a good time, that's the main thing *g*

The whole of fandom seems to be in love with 'Mad Max: Fury Road' so I'm keen to see it at some point. Definitely on DVD if I can't get to the cinema. Seeing it with a large group of fans must have been lovely.

And yay start of football season, with your grown-up pitch and bigger net *g*

A good time was definitely had by all.

I can highly recommend Mad Max. A cinema screening would probably be best because it's big and bold with lots of things going on at any one time, but I suspect it will hold up no matter where you see it. It was definitely fun seeing it with other fans.

A definite yay for football season. I'm going to get ambitious and try to do a couple of separate practices this year. Though goodness knows where I'll get the time.

It's really sad to hear what's happening to Media West. The first time I went, it was still pretty active. The second time, this time at the new hotel, it had markedly reduced. I'm not sure what they could do to revive it, but I do hope they give it a try. Nice to hear it went out on a good note for you.

MW was fading a bit at the old hotel, but it's really suffered since moving to the new venue. I'm not sure it's possible to revive at this point. A good chunk of the problem is the organizers' refusal to change. They won't do one day memberships, insist on a room lottery when there are plenty of rooms available and are snarky about restricting panel topics only to things they approve of, all, from what I can see, out of a vindictive sense of control. I used to be able to ignore their stupidity, but it's started impinging more and more on my actual enjoyment of the con. ::sigh::

Yay for the footie win! And for the challenges of coaching a team that has graduated to a larger field. See, they just keep growing up on us...

Oh, MediaWest! I do remember what it was like in the old days. But getting together with friends to share and squee and have fun sounds great in any circumstances. \o/

This growing up thing has got to stop! (Seriously, it's cool, but frightening!)

MW is not what it was, but it was still fun. But BistoCon will be more fun! (We have re-committed to doing it again and Sally will be talking to the hotel in the coming weeks.)

I was tempted to get one of the t-shirts for my mum, since I always say I learned sarcasm at the feet of the master. *g*

Thank you so much for putting up the video flyers. Scott Clark said they were very prominent.

How was the vid show BTW?

Glad the flyers were seen. I hope you get some takers.

I didn't make the vid show, but I heard it was...not good. And also very short, less than an hour.
