and I was so exhausted I actually fell asleep whilst typing. Multiple times. (I somehow managed to keep typing while being unconscious, which resulted not in the expected gibberish, but in crazy, alternate universe ends of sentences that had nothing to do with the beginnings of said sentences.)
When you're sleep deprived, your brain will snatch naps of microsleep even if your eyes are open and you're still functioning on automatic; is why driving while fatigued is so dangerous and why it causes more accidents and deaths than drunk driving. You effectively sleepwalk for a few seconds at a time, up to a minute. What you described there is an almost textbook example of how your brain ceases its ability to laterally think when deprived sleep and makes connections that it shouldn't. Thoughts intrude onto other thoughts and such.
I'm glad to know I'm a textbook example of something. *g*
But seriously, this is why I always make sure I've had a good night's sleep when I'm driving any distance, and also why I'm very glad I can now take the subway into work rather that the car. I also keep my emergency Monkees disk in my car, because singing along to the Monkees always keeps me awake. (Sad, but true. *g*)

I hope you're not too sleepy now else all this hugging, dipping and twirling might be a trifle disorienting.
YAY! *\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/**\o/*
Now all you need is a quick summary and you're braced for Monday.
