Sky scowled at the crossword he was currently in the middle of, crossing out the latest clue a little harder than was necessary as he filled in the gaps. Fifteen across - Watermelon. The sound of Jack detailing some highly improbable story in the background was starting to make his head ache, not to mention his jaw as he clenched his teeth together to keep himself silent.

Seventeen down - one who steals. Thief. Well that was a no-brainer. It also fit Jack incredibly well, he thought as the red ranger came out with something that everyone seemed to find hysterically funny, and he scowled some more, filling the word in viciously and scratching out the clue so hard he was a little surprised he didn’t rip the page. Okay, granted, Jack didn’t steal things anymore, he’d put that part of his life behind him. He wouldn’t indulge in such behaviour anymore either, for one thing he wasn’t that stupid, but secondly Sky grudgingly admitted, if only to himself, that it simply wasn’t who Jack was.

On the other hand, he thought as Jack’s laughter rang out across the room, Jack did still steal things, the only difference being that they were intangible things. Like concentration. Peace of mind. Discipline.

The next few minutes were spent determinedly focusing on the crossword, until a shadow fell across the page. He glared at the page, not even needing to look up to know who it was, the faint tingle at the back of his neck telling him exactly who it was. “Haven’t you finished that yet?” Jack’s voice was ever so slightly taunting and Sky bit his lip, forcing himself to keep silent.

Jack leant over his shoulder, so close that Sky could practically feel the red ranger’s breath on his cheek, and studied the crossword intently. “Tension,” he said a moment later.

Sky blinked at the non-sequitur. “What?”

Jack pointed at the questions, fingers brushing against Sky’s arm. “Eighteen across: rigidity or conflict. Tension.”

Sky scowled again. “I know that,” he snapped. He hadn’t though, he’d been puzzling over that one and it annoyed him that Jack had got it straight off.

“Whatever, Sky,” Jack replied, voice amused.

“Don’t you have anything better to do?” Sky demanded, wanting Jack to get out of his face.

“No,” was the casual response as Jack continued to hover at his shoulder. “Six down - challenge.”

Sky stopped, pen poised over the page, and turned his head to look at the cause of all his frustration. “Do you want to do this?” he asked icily but Jack simply smirked at him.

“Just helping you out, Sky. But you know, if you don’t want my help, fine.” That said, Jack strolled off across the room to the replicator and Sky tuned out the faint hum as the replicator responded to Jack’s order. He glanced at the red ranger out of the corner of his eye as Jack sat down not that far from him, bowl in hand and he frowned, returning his attention to the crossword, fingers tightening round his pen reflexively. He didn’t need to see Jack eating watermelon, picking the pieces up with his fingers or licking the juice off as it ran down his hand. He knew exactly where Jack had got the idea from and it was just one more way of driving him completely, utterly and irreversibly out of his mind.

He dropped the magazine with an annoyed exclamation as the answer to the next question slid into his brain.

Twenty-one down - Temptation.
