God. The imagery is so raw, so aching. Beautifully written. I'm always looking for the ripples of doing the hardest things, the things that tear the illusions of safety and containment and sanity. Life without illusions is what draws me to Sherlock. While holding desperately to John's hand.

This is a beautiful comment! And a wonderful thing as a writer to hear. I'm incredibly flattered that you liked the other story enough to follow it back to this one!

I agree, the hard, uncompromising representation of truth in Sherlock is one of the things that make it so appealing. And it's one of the things that makes his character so interesting.

One thing I love about your stories (and you?) is that it reassures me that Sherlock is something deeper than a mere "sociopath". Most of the people I talk to don't get me when I say he's not. You explain and illustrate his humanity so well. I find it so amusing how you write him doing and saying things that are so characteristic to his usual cold and detached self, yet you also never fail to show the side of his which he conceals so well.
Not just him though, your characterizations in general always feel perfect to me.

God I love the way you write them. John ignoring Harry made me laugh. :)) And then of course Sherlock would know that John would throw away that foot. x)

I must confess that my clinging to the notion of Sherlock as perfectly human (and, sometimes, *more* human, which is a concept I am SO THRILLED they went with in the BBC canon)has it's origin in a series of ACD canon fanfics I read by Katie Forsythe. (If you're a fan of the canon, DEFINITELY read those if you haven't already.) It's just an idea that appeals to my inner storyteller. ;)

And thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed this. :)

Yes I loved that touch too. Most of my Sherlock BBC friends are content with seeing Sherlock as a sociopath in its most plain definition. I think they interpret it too literally and I get frustrated when I can't explain why I think he's something much deeper. Now I'll just refer them to your fics if I want to illustrate my point! xD

Oh, I think I've read a work or two of Ms. Katie before... I don't remember exactly but I will definitely check it out again. I used to read ACD canon fanfics a year or so ago and BBC revived the Holmes/Watson fangirl in me. :) Thanks for the rec!

No problem! Katie's stuff is so excellent it's even worth a reread. (Her attention to detail is incredible. I find myself trying to emulate her, but my style doesn't seem lend itself well to ACD canon, alas.)

I think the second season proved your theory right, regarding Sherlock's humanity.

As for his glee at interesting crime scenes, I see him as a man who loves his work and doesn't shroud it in a hypocrisy of 'Oh! What a wicked world!"

Interesting! And, actually, in light of the second season I don't disagree with your second point. (My ideas about the characters always evolve as I learn more about them.)

As to Sherlock, I often find myself divided between the desire to view him as a perceptive romantic who shields himself with apathy and an objective intelligence who is only rarely moved to empathy and love.
