First of all, a huge thank you towards
wicked3659 who allowed me to post this. ^_^
I'm really enthusiastic about the challenge at the moment, and have started to develop a background in which my story might play (still playing with ideas). It has elements from popular MMORPGs, pen & paper and light novels (and hints of other stuff I like, game world names *cough*).
Anyway, after chatting with
pjlover666 and showing it to her, she encouraged me to share said background here as an inspiration for the PJ Challenge 2015. Feel free to take from the background whatever you want - or to point out fatal flaws.
Background
Virtual Reality (VR) exists in this world since hundreds of years and is used to entertain the near immortal TFs, as well as keep the jobless from the streets.
VR is called Teletraan. Anyone can lock into it during recharge, but some just stay inside. There are slangwords for either.
Names for “Players”:Eternals - Mechs who never leave the game. There real bodies were stripped and their sparks and protoforms put into sparkbanks. Inside the game they often work regular jobs, and have regular apartments in Cyber and also privileged access to Ultra Reality worlds. New trend is that they treat Reality as a vacation spot.
Longterm - Mechs that are out of job in real-world and are behaving like on a long vacation. They frequent the gaming worlds mostly.
Charger - Visiting mechs that are just recharging.
Non-Avatar-Charger (NAC) - Mechs that do not like visiting the Worlds, and opt out.
Game mechanics:Avatar - Inside the game the body of a mech is called avatar.
Worlds - Different games are called worlds.
Spatium - Private gaming hub of every player. Here they can decide which world to enter or directly talk with Teletraan and can change the entire environment.
Teletraan - Name of the Master AI and the system. Teletraan usually appears as a ball of light, but other forms are possible if requested by the player.
ARC - Advanced Reality Cube, used by Chargers and Longterms.
Sparkbanks - Used by Eternals.
Admin - Enforcer of the Worlds, can directly call upon information from Teletraan.
Window - Gaming Information appear in a window, that only the one mech can see. For example, if a new Level has been reached, a new proficiency was gained, Reputation / Infamity has changed, etc.
NPA - Non-Player-Avatar, avatar of an AI.
Status Window:
Every World / Games offers different kind of Status for the player and their avatars. These can be looked upon by the Player through a Status Window. But no matter the World, even in CR general Stats are:
- Name and Title
- Health
- Fuel Levels / Satiety (in organic worlds)
- Reality Percentage (for example 100% for Ultra Reality Worlds, while War Worlds only have 30%)
- Job / Profession (can be hidden)
- Credits
Some possible additional Stats in the games are:
- Fighting Skills
- Special Advantages / Disadvantages: Scars, Aura of Fear, Uncontrollable Magic, Talent for Death Magic, … theoretically everything that makes that player different and special.
- Mana
- Infamy / Reputation / Fame
- Bounty
- In Gaming Worlds: Endurance, Intelligence, Strength, Intuition, Wisdom, Charm, Constitution, Agility, Dexterity, …
- With Pets / Companions: Familiarity, Trust, …
Avatar Looks:
Furthermore, it is possible for the avatars to change their looks upon entering a World, but only once. Changes afterwards are only possible once every 10 Vorns in that world or upon request to an Admin.
Class / Job changes are not regulated by Teletraan and are only a matter of the specific Game rules.
Classification of Worlds:
Ultra Reality Worlds (UR): They were created to mirror reality as close as possible. In the beginning it was just cities, districts, but eventually it grew to planets and colonies and are connected through space travel. At this point Cybertron Reality emerged,
Cybertron Reality: Biggest World and an exact copy of reality. But over the years different leaders and decisions have substantially changed CR. As a result, a lawyer of Reality needs extra classes if he wants to work his profession in CR. Natural catastrophes are mirrored. Most Eternals live here.
Other UR Worlds: Worlds with complete realism, but smaller than CR. Usually one planet or colony created for a specific purposes. Some are space stations, or simulate past events. Great vacation spots often.
Gaming Worlds: There are several hundred gaming worlds, but there are vague genre classifications.
- Racing: Very popular are racing games, as it satisfies a part of the Cybertronian mindset. As a result there are many of them, but the biggest Gaming World is called “X-Races”.
- War Worlds: Simulated, large scale war. The Mech chooses a role and tries to become a hero, soldier, something. Notorious for attracting the most aggressive mechs on the planet, but also for providing a good outlet for said aggression. Nonetheless, they have their own AI that monitors the level of sadistic behaviour. Most popular Game: “Shattered Glass” (SG) and “Blizzard”.
- Organic Worlds: For the adventurous; here they can enter a real organic body and learn about completely new limits and needs. Coffee anyone? Players are called Squishies and looked at a bit strangely. Rumour says some want to be really organic.
- Fantasy Worlds: Defeating mythological creatures, wandering the planet as a marksman or simply building your own village, all is possible here. Has the reputation that mechs that like “romance” and “nice” things go there. Biggest Game: “Dungeon and Dragons, “Pathfinder” and “The Black Eye”.
- Horror Worlds: “Cthulhu vs Unicron” is currently very popular, having eliminated “Sparkeater”.
- Exploration Worlds (Short Expo): Find new worlds, fly through space, negotiate galaxy wide contracts. Highly combative. Biggest Games: “Coruscant” and “Terra” (Currently playing the Mega Event “Age of Extinction”).
- Simulation Worlds: Simulating any job you want - but Teletraan tries to include those into Cybertron Reality, as long as it is possible.
Erotica: One special kind of World that really is more like a programm. It offers you every pleasure you might ever want - or not if said pleasure is illegal. Most hacked programm.
Creation Worlds: Small, specialised worlds created by the players themselves. Very difficult and time consuming, but it can way to popularity, fame and money. Or at least to enjoying your own custom tailored world.
- Art Worlds: These are often custom made.
- Music Worlds: Small, often just a disco for some mech to play. Often “linked” to another World.
