VERY IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ: Tag usage and a few modifications.

Greetings everyone. I've recently come to notice a couple of issues with our tags, as it seems after three (almost four!) prosper years of Prowlin' n Jazzin' we've gone way over the permitted limits for some of our tags. Likewise at some point I'm not entirely sure of when a 'fanfiction' tag was created additional to our 'fan fiction' tag and a few ( Read more... )

Issue with re-tagging our own entries: we can add, but not delete tags off our entries. Or at least I can't. If you mod-types are just going to ultimately delete the 'fanfiction', 'fan fiction', and 'prowlxjazz' tags, then there's no problem, but I thought I'd drop a line to make sure you were aware of this.

Yes, the fanfiction, fan fiction and prowlxjazz tags will be deleted after the re-tagging is complete. :>

Related to the above. I went to try and retag my own entries, but there isn't much point if I can't remove tags. You'd probably have a much lower workload if you allow posters to fix their entries.

Ideally that would be best, unfortunately if I change the settings to allow users to add/delete tags, it also grants them the power to create new tags and gives all members the ability to edit everyone else's tags.

This has led to tagging problems in the past, and it's the reason it was disabled by the original admin.

Since the fanfiction, fan fiction and prowlxjazz tags will be deleted at the end of the re-tagging it's not imperative to make people remove them from their entries. *fixes that in post*

Yes, I'm just full of thoughts now that the subject has come up.
To me, it would be nice to have a few new 'warning' tags.
Mechpreg, xeno, non-con (or rape)

I'll submit them to the consideration of the rest of the staff.

However I don't think tags for warnings are necessary. We use them to categorize the content and make something easier to filter through or find.

Warnings are just that, elements within the fic that might not be someone's cup of tea or could trigger someone else. That's a courtesy to your readers to let them know what to expect.

On that vein I can see Xeno becoming a category but not sure about non-con (on the grounds that dark fic/angst should cover non-con and other similar) otherwise we'd have to create a dub-con, and so on and so forth.

Perfect timing since I planned to fix my tags anyway!

Question though. How do I handle the rating tag for multi-chapter work? Is it based on the content of each chapter or does the entire story have to have the same rating as the highest rated chapter? (If one chapter is PG but the rest is G, is the entire story PG or just the chapter in question?) I want to get this right!

The rating tags are based on the chapter you're posting. It's good to put in your header that some chapters' rating will/may change throughout but when tagging just tag for the rating the chapter is. That's how I've always done it for my multi-chapters anyway :)
