A broth like this wasn't going to stop Beka from her morning run. Twas part of her day and so she'd set out afore sunrise, when the island was quiet still. Now, it hadn't been so much. George didn't know what he was doing really other than getting out of the dorms. The fog was completely creepy, but twasn' goin' t'be keepin' him from goin' out if he wanted. And that's all there was to it.

She was almost right in front of him when he saw her through the fog, and George grinned with relief. "Beka! Tis a nice thing t'be seein' a friendly face."

Her attention had been on the noises coming from the side and then there was the figure out of nowhere in front of her. She couldn't see his face, hooded as he was and she skidded to a halt.

"Pox," she breathed as he blocked her way back to the school gates. What he'd said, she did not know. It sounded foreign, like one of the languages she'd heard afore at the docks, but she knew a threat when she'd heard it. "Stay back," she warned.

"Errr, Beka?" George said, frowning at her reaction. "Tis me. I haven' e'en been in a bit o' trouble."

As the figure spoke, there was a snap of a branch cracking to her left and at the corner of her eye she could see a second figure. He was hidden, crouching and waiting for her to lower her defence.

Beka's not give him a chance. She jumped forward at shape blocking her path, a knife in her hand.
