hadrosaur reppin! :3 those guys are pretty cute. they make me think of deer. only with they big ol' lizard guts. just in the ecological niche, i guess, i dunno. hushhh.
oh, huh! i had to look it up, pachycephalosaurids are cool as heck. (i think i used the right derivation of pachycephalosauridae there ... i dunno forgive me i'm not good at latin)
neat. why that one in particular? i can't find much about it
I was writing a story with dinos, and I researched that one and just fell in love with it. Just...that bony head, I guess. I'm a bit of a bonehead myself. I don't know any latin, so you're like, many legs up on me there!
Just googled sinosauropteryx. EVENING WELL SPENT. I like ankylosaurus as well, and diplodocus, because they were my favorite Jack Prelutsky poems as a kid.
Chex I don't know why I didn't come to you before - me and my housemate were having a discussion the other day, that wikipedia didn't really help with, about what happened with our old friend archaeopteryx. Can you explain what the current dinosaur->bird thinking is? Also were there any dinosaurs which had wings and arms?
What do you mean, what happened with it? Current thinking is a little confused, actually, and I've seen it put forward that feathers might have evolved concurrently on dinosaurs AND birds. Parallel evolution or whatever to fulfill the same purpose. Haha. They've found much more bird-like critters that predate our bro archaeopteryx. It's all so many millions of years ago though that WHO FUCKIN' KNOWS. (It's possible that some dinosaurs, ie the raptors in particular, are instead descended from birds (rather than the other way 'round)? CRAZY) (possibly they all just come from a common ancestor and WHO FUCKING KNOWS shit rules though there's science arguments to be had there and I really don't know enough to say much on the matter)
What is it in particular you're asking about archaeopteryx though? He was basically the first feathery bro we found, he rules.
I was just interested in what the current ~theories were, because I remember learning at school that archaeopteryx was the "first bird" and then my housemate said that had been dismissed as a theory. So when I said what happened to it I really meant what happened to its status. That's cool though I'm going to pass on your comments and we will both feel more informed.
